What is Metro?

Metro works on behalf of the 2.1 million people of West Yorkshire, to coordinate high-quality public transport services.

MeetingIt does this by:

  • subsidising bus services;
  • funding local MetroTrain services;
  • running passenger facilities;
  • operating AccessBus services for disabled passengers:
  • managing prepaid tickets such as MetroCard and concessionary fares schemes:
  • leading transport development;
  • providing accurate, up-to-date information on all public transport services within West Yorkshire.

Metro is the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority (PTA) and Executive (PTE). The Authority is made up of 22 elected councillors from the county’s five local councils, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.

The Authority sets policies to make public transport in West Yorkshire, reliable, easy to understand and use, accessible, attractive, affordable, safe and secure and efficient.

The Executive employs around 400 people at Wellington House, Crow Nest Lane and Phoenix House in Leeds and at Travel Centres and Bus Stations across West Yorkshire, to carry out the work required to carry out those policies.
