Metro was selected as one of only 30 employers throughout England to trial the Matrix quality standard, which is run by the Guidance Council and funded by the Department for Education and Skills.
A Matrix assessor looked at how Metro plans and manages information, advice and guidance for employees and the ways in which they can obtain the help they need for their own development at work.
“I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of Metro,” said its Director General Kieran Preston when the award was announced. “It recognises that we place massive importance on ensuring our staff have access to the information and guidance which enables them to develop and progress within the organisation and within themselves.
“It is only by ensuring that we provide the right development opportunities for our own employees that we can pass on their skills an expertise to our customers, the people of West Yorkshire. It does not sound very complicated but it is very difficult to get right.”
As part of the scheme, Metro had an adviser from the Guidance Council to help ensure it meet the standard in giving up to date information and advice. Matrix also acknowledges that staff providing information and advice on learning and work opportunities are suitably qualified to do so.
